What does a DRI volunteer do?

Bingo (Mondays from 3-4 PM )
Our Folks love to play a friendly game of bingo. If you are an old soul at heart, good with numbers, or simply enjoy shouting BINGO, then bingo club is for you.

Book Club (Tuesdays and Thursdays 11-12 AM )
Do you enjoy hunkerin down with a good book? So do many of our Folks! We are looking for volunteers to read stories and engage our Folks in reading time.

Bowling ( Wednesdays 2-4 PM )
On Wednesdays we take a group to the Abilene Bowling Lanes. Bowling is serious around here so bring your A game. Strike up a new friendship. Join us! But seriously, bring your A game.

Exercise
Join us for recreation and fitness time in our gym! We need volunteers who are active and energetic to engage our Folks in fun recreational activities.
Yoga - Tuesdays 9:30-10:30; Kickboxing Wednesdays 10-10:30

Music ( Wednesdays 11-12 AM )
We are looking for volunteers who are musically inclined to play piano, guitar, or sing along with our folks. If you are talented in this way we would love for you to become involved!

Discovery Class ( Tuesdays and Thursdays 3-4)
Join us as we engage in learning through experiments, projects and fun! We need volunteers to help us bring excitement and ideas to this new class.

Beauty Shop 1:30 on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month
This one is LADIES ONLY - We are looking for women volunteers to help us learn proper beauty and health etiquette.

Are the hours flexible?

Our default volunteer time slot is 2:00 pm to 4:00 weekdays. If you need a time outside of that schedule please contact our Activity Center staff at 325-232-6934

Why a background check?

Just as you would desire with your own family, we work hard to ensure the safety of our "Folks." And while our volunteers are never left alone with the "Folks" we still want to take every precaution to protect the well being of our staff and "Folks."

Will I be trained?

Yes. When you arrive one of our professional staff members will go over the details of the day's planned activities and help ensure that you feel confident about the tasks assigned for that day. If you have questions about the types of tasks volunteers perform we would encourage you to sign-up for a "shadow" day so that you can see first-hand what goes on.

How often can I volunteer?

You can volunteer as often as you like, but we are only asking for you to sign-up a minimum of one two-hour time slot per month.

I have a question not listed here.

If you have additional questions about our volunteer program please send an email to Dennis Smith. We will respond quickly, usually within the next few hours. Our volunteer program is very important to our "Folks" and we want to work hard to ensure it is successful and meaningful for everyone. Thank you!
